Welcome to Young & District Little Athletics
Welcome to the 2011/2012 season. I would like to welcome to the club both old and new families.
Family involvement is of paramount importance. Not only do parents get to share in their child’s enjoyment, but they get to see their child develop new skills in the variety of events offered by the centre.
We also need your support to make our centre a success. We have a large number of children and variety of events every competition night, and we require assistance every week with each family to provide assistance at least 75% of the season.
Last season we had a total of 161 athletes enjoy the family, fun and fitness of Little Athletics.
HISTORY
Little Athletics began in Geelong, Victoria in 1964. By 1967 there was a Victorian Little Athletics’ Association. Within five years the Australian Little Athletics Union was born. There are now over 190 centres in NSW alone. There are 5 regions in our state and we belong to Region 5 and the Central Tablelands Zone. Other centres in our Zone are Bathurst, Canowindra, Cowra, Cumnock, Forbes, Grenfell, Kandos/Rylstone, Molong, Mudgee, Orange, Parkes and Peak Hill.
2010/2011 REPORT
This has been my fifth year as President and I am looking forward to another great season. I wish to thank our committee and all the parents, grandparents and other family members that work so well together to keep the nights running efficiently and on time. This is much appreciated. It is not just the committee, but the wonderful parents that keeps Little Athletics in Young running.
The records continued to tumble regularly with 19 records broken over the season, with Jordan Douglass, Caitlin Silk, and Ashleigh Bennett breaking their own records several times. The weather refused to co-operate on Wednesdays and over 25% of our evenings were cancelled much to our disappointment..
Thirty one athletes attended the zone carnival in Orange this season, and 25 of these athletes qualified for the regional carnival held in Forbes. Five of these athletes managed to qualify to attend the State Carnival in Sydnay in 13 different events. Jordan Douglass continued to smash her high jump record at State and came home with a bronze medal.
I wish to thank our existing committee members who have returned for another season, and also welcome our new members. Please feel free to ask any questions of the committee who are always happy to help in any way.
AILEEN McINERNEY, President
